Job Description

The Electric Infrastructure (EI) group at Pacific Northwest National Lab seeks a summer intern to conduct research to develop innovative methods for adaptively setting remedial action scheme (RAS) parameters based on realistic and near real-time operation conditions to improve power grid reliability and resilience. The detailed research includes:

• Prepare large-size power system power flow scenario data.

• Perform massive dynamic simulations for large-size power system in a parallel manner.

• Develop and test machine learning based algorithms to adaptively set RAS parameters for better performance.


Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be currently enrolled/matriculated in a PhD program at an accredited college. Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.


Preferred Qualifications

Must have solid background in power system engineering.

Must have experiences in transmission system modelling and simulation tools, including power flow, contingency and transient stability simulation.

Must have experiences in programming language: Python and Matlab

Must have experiences with PSS/E

Strong oral and written communication skills

Strong analytical ability

Knowledge and experience in Machine Learning and Tensorflow is a plus.
