The High-Performance Computing (HPC) Group at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks a graduate student intern researcher with a strong background in quantum algorithms, quantum software development, quantum machine learning (QML), quantum characterization verification and validation (QCVV) for NISQ devices. The candidate will be expected to perform world-leading research focusing as part of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory within the Codesign Center for Quantum Advantage (C2QA).The candidate will be expected to collaborate closely with laboratory personnel in computing and application domains, as well as researchers at collaborating national laboratories, universities, and industry on center activities focused on the development, application, benchmarking, compilation, and optimization of quantum algorithms and software.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities include:
Developing quantum proxy applications (including variational algorithms for chemistry, optimization, and machine learning) of interest for benchmarking quantum testbeds
Developing quantum abstract machine models and universal qubit models
Publish results in highly visible, peer-reviewed venues (e.g., conferences and journals)
Interact with internal and external research staff and domain scientists for collaboration purposes
Participate in and potentially lead technical presentations on the work
Participate in team meetings and potentially interact with funding sponsors
Candidate will need to be able to spend 6-months working with hiring group.
Candidates must be currently enrolled/matriculated in a PhD program at an accredited college. Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
Intern must have completed computer science programming, computer architecture, and/or physics courses and must be familiar with modern programming tools and languages.
Currently pursuing a graduate degree in Computer Science or related field.
