We are seeking an outstanding PhD Student Intern to join our multi-disciplinary team focused on developing new ways to produce renewable fuels and chemicals using heterogeneous catalysis. The intern will join a team of researchers working on process and catalyst development aimed at efficiently converting renewable feedstocks such as biomass and waste into valuable fuels and chemical products. In this position, the candidate will explore the characterize the structure and function of heterogeneous catalysts (e.g. mixed oxides, zeolites) used to convert low-value feedstocks into fuels and chemicals.
The selected candidate is expected to conduct laboratory-based research activities and support writing of research manuscripts, as well as interact, communicate, and problem-solve with a diverse team of research staff across PNNL.
Candidates must be currently enrolled/matriculated in a PhD program at an accredited college. Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
Candidates must have some experience in the development of heterogeneous catalysts.
The ideal candidate is safety-oriented, possesses good written and oral communication skills, and has demonstrated an ability to collaborate effectively.
Preferred candidates will have a strong track record of demonstrating initiative, problem-solving, independent execution of routine research tasks, and ability to learn new concepts and research techniques.
Currently enrolled in Ph.D Chemical Engineering or related discipline
3.5 GPA or higher is preferred
