Job Description

We are searching for an outstanding candidate for a Ph.D. Intern position working on atmospheric chemistry. Emphasis will be focused on studying atmospheric particles using an array of micro-spectroscopy techniques and advanced mass spectrometry platforms and possibly light source capabilities to probe into the physical and chemical properties of complex atmospheric particles.

The candidate should have knowledge in some of the atmospheric particle characterization capabilities. In particular, the student will apply electron microscopy, spectroscopy or mass spectrometry techniques. Experience in the use of data analysis tools, such as Matlab, R or Python are required. The candidate is expected to perform experiments and analyze data, participate in manuscript preparation for publication. Since Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory (EMSL) is a scientific user facility, the candidate is also expected to participate in some of the user activities associated with micro-spectroscopy or mass spectrometry capabilities in EMSL.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be currently enrolled/matriculated in a PhD program at an accredited college. Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Must have completed the course work for Ph.D. program. The candidate should be able to spend at least one year at PNNL (extension is possible).

Should be enrolled in a Ph.D. program in atmospheric sciences, physics, chemistry, environmental, chemical engineering or related field.
