Job Description

The Integrative Omics (IO) group at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory has a Chemist II position available that offers the opportunity to be part of a diverse team dedicated to the operation and maintenance of the large LC-MS capability located in the Environmental and Molecular Sciences Laboratory (EMSL). The Integrative Omics group develops and applies cutting-edge mass spectrometry-based multi-omics technologies and methods for quantifying proteins/peptides, post-translational modifications (PTMs), metabolites, and lipids in studies of health and disease, the environment, and general systems biology.

In this role, the candidate will work with other members of this team in support of the large EMSL mass spec capability but will also have opportunities to collaborate with Principle Investigators across multiple groups that utilize this capability. Additionally, the candidate will be tasked with roles involving implementation of new analytical capabilities into our production LC-MS capability. In this role, the candidate will be required to work with multiple teams that include highly diverse individuals with very different roles in the overall operations of the larger group. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Operates, maintains, and repairs LC-MS systems.

  • Implements new IMS-TOF and SLIMS-TOF technologies into the production LC-MS capability.

  • Maintains organized working condition, and an accurate record keeping.

  • Communicates effectively with all levels of staff and interns eventually taking on mentorship roles.

  • Contributes to the preparation of reports, manuscripts, posters, presentations, proposals etc.

  • Adheres to safety and security requirements, as well as directorate/group policies.

Minimum Qualifications

BS/BA with 2 years of experience, MS/MA with 0-2 years of experience, or PhD with 0 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated background in hands-on operation and maintenance of LC-MS instrumentation with specific attention to TOF and Orbitrap based platforms.

  • A strong background in omics research.

  • Experience in LC-MS methods development and implementation.

  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
