Shielded Facilities Operations is seeking a Nuclear Operations Technician Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3. The successful candidate will safely work with radioactive and hazardous material in hot cells, fume hoods, glove boxes and on bench tops. Work will support a wide range of research and development projects. Work will include operation of electromechanical manipulators in hot cells, analytical chemistry, decontamination of radioactive material, preventative or corrective maintenance of radioactive systems, waste management, and logging facility systems status. Work requires precision in following written procedures and conforming to facility conduct of operations.
Level 1 : Acquires job skills and applies standard procedures for assigned tasks and known processes. Limited radioactive work experience. Support operation of equipment and systems remotely (within a hot cell). Develop and use techniques for measuring and testing of radioactive materials / specimens.
Level 2 : Selects, adapts and applies standard procedures for assigned tasks and known processes. Rigorously practices appropriate radioactive contamination control techniques. Capable of working with several types of laboratory instrumentation and equipment
Level 3 : Skilled, fully proficient journeyman level. Has substantial understanding of the job and applies knowledge and skills to complete a wide-range of tasks. Adept at working with highly radioactive materials, is proficient at limiting exposure to ionizing radiation, and rigorously practices appropriate radioactive contamination control techniques. Specializes in designing and operating equipment and systems remotely. Capable of working with a wide range of laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Seasoned radiological worker with several years of hot cell and glove box or fume hood operational experiences.
High school diploma and 1-2 years of related work experience, or relevant Associate's degree.
Tasks performed require the application of basic knowledge and skill related to radiological and hot cell work.
High school diploma and 2+ years of relevant work experience, or relevant Associate's degree and 1+ years of relevant work experience.
Significant radioactive work experience in hot cells, glove boxes, fume hoods, or radiation and contamination areas.
