Job Description

This position is responsible for “remote” and “hands-on” work with radioactive materials and systems to conduct and/or support a wide-range of research and development and related activities within hot cells, glove boxes, fume hoods, and on laboratory bench tops in a Non-Reactor Nuclear Facility. Conducts project and related work in hot cells. Operates in laboratory workspaces equipped with fume hoods and glove boxes used to conduct work with lower dose radioactive materials. Independently implements appropriate remote techniques to prepare a variety of radioactive materials/specimens for analytical and physical properties measuring and testing. Specific to hot cells, supports testing and radioactive operation of complex systems, equipment, and instrumentation.

Other duties include recording facility systems status, decontamination of radiological components, supporting the conduct of preventative or corrective maintenance, and calibration of facility equipment and systems. Implements the requirements associated with Conduct of Operations, Criticality Safety controls, Radiological controls, and waste management of nuclear materials. Relevant work experience is defined as Hot Cell and Fume Hood or Glove Box Experience.

Level 2 : Selects, adapts and applies standard procedures for assigned tasks and known processes. Rigorously practices appropriate radioactive contamination control techniques. Capable of working with several types of laboratory instrumentation and equipment

Level 3 : Skilled, fully proficient journeyman level. Has substantial understanding of the job and applies knowledge and skills to complete a wide-range of tasks. Adept at working with highly radioactive materials, is proficient at limiting exposure to ionizing radiation, and rigorously practices appropriate radioactive contamination control techniques. Specializes in designing and operating equipment and systems remotely. Capable of working with a wide range of laboratory instrumentation and equipment

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma and 2+ years of relevant work experience, or relevant Associate's degree and 1+ years of relevant work experience.

  • Significant radioactive work experience in hot cells, glove boxes, fumehoods, or radiation and contamination areas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma and 4+ years of relevant work experience, or relevant Associate's degree and 3+ years of relevant work experience.

  • Seasoned radiological worker with several years of hot cell and glove box or fume hood operational experiences.
