As an Advisor in the Operational Systems and Technology (OST) Division, you will use your extensive field experience comprised of a comprehensive understanding of existing theories, principles, and concepts to provide solutions to unusually complex problems, some for which no precedents or past practice exists. Your ingenuity and creativity will contribute to the Division’s ability to resolve problems that require mastery of specialized skills and/or techniques. You demonstrate leadership through influence and consensus building and are recognized nationally as an influential leader in your field. Your ability to exert positive influence across a broad spectrum of stakeholders including internal and external organizations and the public is often sought out to support or lead key project teams. You regularly collaborate and negotiate with senior national and international government officials and organizations and influence national/international policies and decisions.
The Advisor will lead and contribute to externally funded projects and will lead efforts to obtain new internally funded laboratory investments. A keen interest in delivering national security mission impact to sponsors is required and demonstrated by contributing technical insight that influences research and development and strategic direction. In addition, a desire to steward capabilities, resources, and staff development that can be leveraged for project commitments and technology innovation in a multi-disciplinary environment is critical.

PhD 3+ years of experience
PhD in a technical field preferred such as nuclear engineering, systems engineering, electrical engineering, or similar
Expertise in non-proliferation, counter-terrorism, counter-proliferation, emergency response, and related policies and technologies
Demonstrated excellence leading and engaging distributed teams
Familiarity working in laboratory settings
Strong project management skills with the ability to plan and manage scope, schedule, and budget for complex multi-year projects
Strong presentation skills, especially to sponsors and industry experts

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.
Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.
Drug Testing: All Security Clearance (L or Q) positions will be considered by the Department of Energy to be Testing Designated Positions which means that they are subject to applicant, random, and for cause drug testing. In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for the 12 consecutive months preceding completion of the requisite Questionnaire for National Security Positions (QNSP).
Note: Applicants will be considered ineligible for security clearance processing by the U.S. Department of Energy until non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for 12 consecutive months can be demonstrated.
