Job Description

The Physical Sciences Division seeks a Group Leader (GL) for the Materials Sciences group, a diverse, multi-disciplinary basic and applied research group of 60 staff members and postdoctoral research associates. We synthesize and characterize functional materials classes such as biologically inspired, structural, and electronic materials, and materials for energy capture, conversion, and storage. We seek outstanding candidates to lead this collaborative group and directly contribute to this research!

Our overarching goal is to develop a predictive understanding of the physical principles that connect atomic-scale interactions to the behavior of ensembles of atomic and molecular species. This knowledge is transformed into predictive synthesis of complex nanostructured materials with controlled dimensionality, architectures, and functionalities over multiple length scales.

Your responsibilities will be split nearly evenly between managerial duties (45%) and contributions to peer-reviewed research (55%). In the managerial role, you will provide leadership that will advance materials science broadly at PNNL. You will work with Lab Leadership to set the agenda for materials research directions at PNNL!
