Job Description

The High-Performance Computing (HPC) Group at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks a M.S. candidate intern to participate in the research and development of one or more of the following research areas: scalable approaches for the design and development of system software and runtime systems for different application classes (including Machine Learning, graph analytics, and multi-physics simulations), including those that target heterogeneous system architectures; modeling of large-scale HPC system architectures and software environments including experience in distributed runtime software and performance analysis; optimization problems including multi-objective optimization in the area of characterizing and modeling the performance of HPC applications and runtime resource management using analytical, statistical, and Machine Learning approaches; compiler frameworks targeting heterogeneous architectures; hardware/software co-design methodologies; and advanced memory and processing technologies and architectures. Experience with large-scale storage and networking, programming models such as OpenMP, SIMD and SIMD-style acceleration, and modern programming languages such as C++-20 and Rust, while not essential, will also be considered a plus

Responsibilities and Accountabilities include:

  • Work closely with a mentor and research team to conduct technical research in areas of interest to impacted projects

  • Publish results in highly visible peer-reviewed venues (e.g., conferences and journals)

  • Collaboration and team work with internal and external research staff and domain scientists

  • Participate in and potentially lead technical presentations on the work

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be matriculated/enrolled in a Master's program at an accredited college or university. Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a Master’s Degree program in Computer Science or related field.
