Job Description
In this role, the intern will provide support to the PNNL Distributed Systems Group – Renewables Team’s work around energy justice and equity. PNNL is laying the groundwork for advancing energy equity through research to develop an innovative energy system that benefits everyone. PNNL is spearheading an effort to advance equity and energy justice through the role of scientific research with the goal of building an advanced national power grid, transitioning to clean reliable energy, and designing smart buildings that are more just and equitable. PNNL envisions an energy system that is not only clean and resilient, but also affordable and accessible to all.
The intern will advance PNNL’s work in this space including supporting research projects on equity metrics, community energy transitions, energy storage, and decision-support tools. Depending on their capabilities, the intern may be asked to design energy equity metrics that assess community level energy inequities and how these vary as a function of demographic factors. The candidate should be able to:
Help integrate energy justice and equity insights into PNNL’s research efforts
Effectively communicate insights through reports, case studies, and other publications
The intern will be expected to interface with other Distributed Systems Group staff and be a contributor on a team of engineers, researchers, economists, and analysts.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must be matriculated/enrolled in a Master's program at an accredited college or university. Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates must be matriculated/enrolled in a master’s program at an accredited college or university
Active engagement and passion for advancing energy justice/equity
Strong research, writing and oral presentation skills
Experience working with community groups is preferred
Candidate must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently
Sensitivity to and appreciation for diverse viewpoints and lived experiences
Degree in engineering, energy policy, economics, sustainability, energy social science, or related field.
