Job Description

The Integrative Omics (IO) Group within the Biological Sciences Division is seeking a Mass Spectrometry Scientist that is highly experienced and knowledgeable in the operation, maintenance and repair of nano-flow HPLC and mass spectrometry (MS) instrumentation. The successful candidate will be part of a team that operates a large MS capability comprised of over 30 MS instruments (e.g., IMS-ToF, Orbitrap, FT-ICR, GC-MS and triple quad) used in support of dozens of projects and analysis of samples from diverse origins (e.g., mammal, plant, bacteria, fungi, soil, etc).

The MS capability is primary located within the Environmental and Molecular Sciences Laboratory (EMSL) and accessed by other groups across PNNL. Additionally, EMSL is a DOE Office of Science User Facility and open to research proposals from all over the world. As a result, the candidate will work with many scientists from very diverse backgrounds. In this type of environment, it is critical that the candidate be an effective communicator and team player. Opportunities to provide technical contributions to projects are common in this setting and often lead to inclusion in manuscripts.

Minimum Qualifications

BS/BA with 5 yers of experience; MS/MA with 3 years of experience; PhD with 1 year of experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated practical understanding of liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry

  • Over 3 years of full time responsibility for operation and maintenance of one or more LC-MS systems

  • Experience operating nano-flow UPLC systems

  • Hands-on experience operating LC-MS instrumentation

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Excellent record keeping skills

  • Team player capable of working in a highly diverse environment

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel
