Responsible and accountable for managing and monitoring the performance of the suite of specialized facilities within the Radiochemical Processing Laboratory (RPL) consisting of hot cells, fume hoods, glove boxes and associated support areas. Has approval authority for all technical work documents and radiation work permits and is responsible for ensuring that projects are performed with qualified technical staff and is controlled in strict compliance with Environmental, Safety & Health, Conduct of Operations, Radiological Control, and Quality Assurance requirements. Responsible for managing the interfaces between the operating, project and support organizations, such as radiological control and maintenance services, and integrates multiple project and facility system maintenance schedules to optimize productivity. This position requires strong interpersonal skills to include the ability to establish strong relationships with diverse organizations. Must posses excellent written and oral communications skills.
Serve as the line manager for assigned staff that include nuclear operations technicians, nuclear operations technical specialists and engineers that support hot cell, glove box and high hazard non-nuclear operations.
Assures SFO radiological work is planned and performed in compliance with As Low As Reasonably Achievable radiation protection goals.
Manage projects and tasks associated with projects/research being conducted within the hot cells and hot cell operating galleries.
Experience with implementing DOE O 422.1 Conduct of Operations.
Bachelor's degree plus 10+ years of relevant experience; OR, a Master's degree plus 8+ years of relevant experience. Typical related management experience should include, initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing projects.
Experience with research and development activities including but not limited to material science, radiochemistry, and/or nuclear materials.
Experience with DOE nuclear facility safety basis requirements under 10 CFR 830.
Experience with planning, execution and control of high hazard/nuclear operations.
