This position’s main focus encompasses the research, development, and documentation of business and system requirements for information applications relevant to the administration of PNNL’s business systems. Your work will include: Support the work maintaining and operating existing business information systems, partnering with clients to define, build and deliver innovative software solutions to complex business and scientific problems; working with effective teams from multiple disciplines; researching and writing business requirements. Work with teams and users to implement requirements and validate expected outcomes. As a member of a stable team you are expected to develop knowledge of the goals of projects or clients you are supporting – and maintain a customer service focus commensurate with this position.
Your key responsibilities and accountabilities would include:
Perform research and analysis of existing systems and business rules to establish requirements for new product features and maintenance of existing systems.
Work collaboratively as part of an agile development team to mature user stories by facilitating requirements discussions, providing details and documenting acceptance criteria.
Support engineering teams through the development, implementation, and operation of business applications.
Provide individual contribution to supporting software releases including testing, facilitating product demos, holding team retrospectives, and investigating issues.
Enhance personal technical and professional skills through active mentoring and training;
Assimilate knowledge quickly in multiple domains;
The hiring level will be determined based on the education, experience and skill set of the successful candidate based on the following:
IT Engineer level 3:
Selects and develops technical approaches on assignments with occasional oversight on complex problems. Principal investigator or co-PI on projects or tasks, while integrating capabilities of work team members. Supports scoping, scheduling, and budgeting at a project or major task level. Generates new ideas for proposals and business development opportunities while leading development of technical section of small to medium proposals. Serves as a role model for quality, safety, and security. Makes key contributions in setting technical direction. Builds effective project teams with membership across a group, S&E domain and/or directorate. Contributes to the local organization through mentorship of junior staff and taking on operational assignments.
IT Engineer level 4:
Selects and develops technical approaches to complex challenges. Principal investigator or co-PI on multiple or significantly complex, and/or high risk projects or tasks and/or involving multiple tasks, capabilities, and organizations. Develops, and realizes new significant project opportunities, leading the development of technical sections of large proposals. Takes lead in scope, schedule, and budget for projects or large tasks. Serves as a role model for quality, safety, and security. May contribute to directorate level operational improvement activities. Leading organizational teams that proactively identify and promote new capabilities within a division and S&E domain, and advance the directorate strategy. Mentoring staff and peers across directorate. Leading through operational assignments that benefit the group and directorate.
Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience, Master's degree with 3 years of experience, or PhD with 1 years of experience.
A minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of the required degree.
Exceptional communicator with both technical and nontechnical audiences
Knowledge and experience writing user stories (business requirements) for the purpose of developing of complex software
Experience leveraging iterative development practices such as Agile or Scrum
Knowledge and experience leveraging SQL to mine and analyze data
Customer service oriented and approachable
Deliver results with highest level of professionalism and integrity
Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities
Bachelor's degree with 7 years of experience, Master's degree with 5 years of experience, or PhD with 3 years of experience. A minimum of 15 years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of the required degree.” Experience using Agile management tools such as Jira.
Familiarity of at least one programming language
Knowledge of UI/UX best practices for web and mobile applications
Able to read and write complex SQL queries
Experience developing wireframes, mockups, and/or use cases
Experience acting in a Scrum Master role
Experience testing client facing web based applications
Knowledge of APIs and RESTful Web Services
Ability to read and write code
