Job Description

PNNL operates a Vulnerability Management (VM) program designed to identify vulnerabilities and to track and manage their remediation across the enterprise. This role is part of the VM team specifically responsible for working as part of the team to ensure vulnerabilities identified are reported, logged, and tracked to remediation following established SLA’s. This role includes working with system, application and data owners to provide reports of remediation requirements, help track and identify asset inventory, help log work tickets and exceptions, research vulnerability findings and share remediation solutions as provided by VM scan tools. The role serves to ensure remediation activities are performed and completed in alignment with approved SLA’s.

Applies engineering and technical principles to the design and development of computer networks, cyber security infrastructure, telecommunications, information technology systems and tools, and database systems. Analyzes, installs, integrates, modifies, and supports all associated systems, networks, software, and databases. Plans and conducts projects after analysis of functional and operational requirements. May consult with and lead cross-functional teams.

Your key responsibilities and accountabilities would include:

  • Track progress of vulnerability remediation by using agreed-upon action plans and timelines with responsible technology developers and support teams

  • Analyze penetration test results and engage with technology partners and business units in order to resolve identified vulnerabilities within SLAs

  • Document exceptions, false positives and or negatives

  • Follow and promote change control procedures including working with communications teams to ensure business and system admins are following ITIL and proper testing and change for remediation activities

  • Communicate appropriate vendor and scan system recommended solutions as part of comprehensive remediation solutions

  • Drive identified vulnerabilities to remediation by planning and documenting remediation activities and plans with system and application owners

  • Deliver actionable Information Security dashboards and scorecards

  • Analyze data sources and recommend optimal data sources to provide relevant reporting

  • Troubleshooting, researching, and resolving complex technical issues

  • Writing procedures and documentation for processes to aid in troubleshooting and review

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 2 years of experience or Master's degree with 0 years of experience, or PhD

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some experience with vulnerability scanning technology, Tenable Nessus preferred

  • Sound project and task management skills

  • General knowledge of IT and Security Infrastructure such as vulnerability management, auditing and log management, security boundary controls (firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention), patch management, or internal network access controls such as VLANs and segmentation

  • Experience with working within SLA’s

  • Knowledge of networking infrastructure and routing principles

  • Knowledge of operational support for operating systems, applications and networks

  • Common knowledge of Client Server relationships

  • Knowledge in various technology areas such as operating systems such as Linux and Windows, Active Directory, VPN systems, encryption, various authorization and authentication mechanisms/software, network monitoring, and vulnerability and threat management tools (including network based scanners)

  • Experience developing in PowerShell, other languages to run tasks, perform actions, and automate procedures

  • Demonstrated ability to self-direct, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks and priorities

  • Exceptional communicator with both technical and nontechnical audiences

  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams

  • Demonstrated ability to solve challenging technical problems with innovative solutions

  • Customer service oriented and approachable
