Your work will include: Developing and maintaining the high-level design plan for the overall logical and technical network architecture. Providing technical leadership and consulting across the organization, from strategic decision making down to the project planning level. Gaining organizational commitment for all high-level network infrastructure plans, and initiating and participating in projects to evaluate technologies and methods for implementing these plans. Participating in the operational support of network infrastructure as required within a team of Network Engineers.
Applies engineering and technical principles to the design and development of computer networks, cyber security infrastructure, telecommunications, information technology systems and tools, and database systems. Analyzes, installs, integrates, modifies, and supports all associated systems, networks, software, and databases. Plans and conducts projects after analysis of functional and operational requirements. May consult with and lead cross-functional teams
Develop and maintain the high-level design plan for the overall logical and technical network architecture. Provide technical leadership and consulting across the organization, from strategic decision making down to the project planning level. Responsible for gaining organizational commitment for all high-level network infrastructure plans, and initiate and participate in projects to evaluate technologies and methods for implementing these plans. Participate in the operational support of network infrastructure as required within a team of Network Engineers.
Collaborate with other architects while ensuring development of and compliance to established system reference architectures, compliance to regulations and security policies
Define standards and best practices, and authors and maintains roadmap strategy documentation
Provide technical leadership and direction in all areas of networking ranging from routing, switching, load balancing, wireless network, VoIP, VPN, MPLS, WAN strategy, IP management and addressing (i.e. DHCP, DNS, IPAM, etc.), cloud and virtual networking (VMware and NSX), and network security
Develop and maintain Enterprise level architecture design, configuration and management systems for campus and Wide Area Network infrastructure
Function as a Tier-4 escalation point during major outages or critical downtime windows
Provide technical expertise in ensuring the electronic communication is secure
Write procedures and documentation for processes to aid in troubleshooting and review
The hiring level will be determined based on the education, experience and skill set of the successful candidate based on the following:
IT Engineer level 3:
Selects and develops technical approaches on assignments with occasional oversight on complex problems. Principal investigator or co-PI on projects or tasks, while integrating capabilities of work team members. Supports scoping, scheduling, and budgeting at a project or major task level. Generates new ideas for proposals and business development opportunities while leading development of technical section of small to medium proposals. Serves as a role model for quality, safety, and security. Makes key contributions in setting technical direction. Builds effective project teams with membership across a group, S&E domain and/or directorate. Contributes to the local organization through mentorship of junior staff and taking on operational assignments.
IT Engineer level 4:
Selects and develops technical approaches to complex challenges. Principal investigator or co-PI on multiple or significantly complex, and/or high risk projects or tasks and/or involving multiple tasks, capabilities, and organizations. Develops, and realizes new significant project opportunities, leading the development of technical sections of large proposals. Takes lead in scope, schedule, and budget for projects or large tasks. Serves as a role model for quality, safety, and security. May contribute to directorate level operational improvement activities. Leading organizational teams that proactively identify and promote new capabilities within a division and S&E domain, and advance the directorate strategy. Mentoring staff and peers across directorate. Leading through operational assignments that benefit the group and directorate.
- Bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience, Master's degree with 3 years of experience, or PhD with 1 year of experience. A minimum of 15 years of relevant work experience may be considered.

Cisco CCNP or equivalent Certification
Experience with network architecture, design and administration using Cisco Nexus systems
At least 6 years’ experience in enterprise network design and implementation
VXLAN overlay-network design and implementation
Experience with network automation tools (i.e. Ansible, NetConf, REST, etc.)
Experience managing and supporting F5 load balancers
Experience managing and supporting Palo Alto Firewalls
DNS Management and Infoblox System management and support
CWNP and/or CWNE Certifications
Experience building AWS and/or Azure software defined networks and designs.
Exceptional communicator with both technical and nontechnical audiences
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams
Demonstrated ability to solve challenging technical problems with innovative solutions
A focus on customer satisfaction and high-quality service delivery
