The Worker Safety & Health Group is seeking an experienced professional to lead the PNNL Integrated Safety Management and Voluntary Protection Programs. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team of ES&H professionals dedicated to the safe conduct of research in accordance with the highest standards of safety, health, and environmental stewardship.
The Integrated Safety Program Manager is a Principle Worker Safety & Health Professional with the responsibility to develop and implement programs, policies and procedures for hazard evaluation and monitoring to prevent or minimize staff exposures to chemical, physical, ergonomic and biological agents that may result in occupationally-related illnesses and disease or adverse environmental impacts. The incumbent maintains professional knowledge of existing and proposed changes in applicable program requirements and recommends actions to continuously improve the effectiveness and efficiency of PNNL Work Planning and Control processes.
Principle responsibilities of the Integrated Safety Program Manager include:
Influence policy and set direction across national organizations within area of expertise. Use innovative ideas to enhance business results.
Drive Operational Improvement Initiatives (OII) across multiple Management & Operations Programs and R&D organizations. Serves as consultant to senior management to assess and improve PNNL Operational Culture.
Developing as a nationally recognized technical authority in one or more areas including Integrated Safety Management and Organizational Culture.
Maintain contacts pertinent to significant matters often involving coordination among groups including networks across other DOE Laboratories and with national peer groups.
Conduct annual program evaluations to assess the effectiveness of the PNNL Voluntary Protection Program and Integrated Safety Management System.
Partner with the employee led VPP Steering Committee to plan and execute events and communication campaigns designed to raise staff awareness of contemporary ES&H issues and increase employee involvement in the continuous improvement of safety and health policies and procedures pertinent to their work.
- Bachelor's degree and 15+ years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree and 13+ years of relevant experience.
Advanced degree with and emphasis in Industrial Safety, Public Health, or Organizational Phycology
Recent experience in the implementation of USDOE Requirements for Integration of Environment, Safety and Health into Work Planning and Execution.
Demonstrated experience in the establishment and maintenance of ES&H management systems such as ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 in a complex operating environment.
Basic understanding of Work Planning and Control systems to identify hazards and mitigate risks for industrial and laboratory activities.
Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to productively collaborate with a diverse workforce with widely varying experience and education.
