Job Description

  • Applies and shares good information technology practices and implementation through assignments

  • Seen as a technical leader or expert in at least one information technology domain

  • Lead the definition of technical requirements to incorporate thought leadership within their domain. (defining epics, stories and features). Leads development of technical section of small to medium proposals

  • Building effective project teams with membership across a group, information technology domain and/or directorate

  • Establishing leadership role in professional community including professional societies, other laboratories, academia, and industry

  • Developing and maintaining Enterprise level configuration and management of Entrust certificate and encryption services, Microsoft certificate services, RSA SecurID authentication services

  • Automation through scripting of common tasks and processes

  • Providing technical expertise to assist Help Desk staff in level 2 support

  • Troubleshooting, researching, and resolving complex technical issues

  • Writing procedures and documentation for processes to aid in troubleshooting and review

The hiring level will be determined based on the education, experience and skill set of the successful candidate based on the following:

Level I: Working locally as an individual contributor. Building and maintaining effective internal relationships on individual or team level. Receives instruction on required tasks and reports results on time and on budget, while working under guidance from experienced staff. Takes initiative to set personal direction and goals. Work is conducted with a high standard of quality, safety, and security.

Level II: Building networks at a local and capability level. Effectively teaming to share resources and optimize research at the group and division level. Mentoring junior staff and students. Receives guidance on new assignments, making preliminary selections on technical alternatives; independently completes recurring assignments. Defines and leads project work at a small task/project level, reporting results on time and on budget. Contributes to proposals. Embraces expectations for quality, safety, and security. Communicates the importance within the work team.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field and years' experience, or Master’s degree and years' experience. A minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of the required degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS/BA with 2 years of experience, MS/MA with 0 years of experience or PhD with 0 years of experience. Preferred 10 years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of the required degree

  • Experience in implementing and managing complex Public Key Infrastructure components and services

  • Experience with Encryption and Digital Certificate technologies

  • Experience with Windows Active Directory

  • Experience with Windows Server operating systems

  • Experience with Linux Server operating systems

  • Experience with VMware server virtualization products

  • Experience with OS X, iOS and Android management

  • Experience in using PowerShell, to run tasks, perform actions, and automate procedures

  • Demonstrated ability to self-direct, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks and priorities

  • Exceptional communicator with both technical and nontechnical audiences

  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams

  • Demonstrated ability to solve challenging technical problems with innovative solutions

  • Customer service oriented and approachable

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.


  • U.S. Citizenship

  • Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.

  • Drug Testing: All Security Clearance (L or Q) positions will be considered by the Department of Energy to be Testing Designated Positions which means that they are subject to applicant, random, and for cause drug testing.
