Job Description

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking ambitious, high-caliber sophomore, junior or senior high school students for intern assignments within the High School Young Women in Science (YWiS) Program. This summer internship is a research-based educational experience for sophomores, juniors and senior females. The students must have an expressed interest in and potential for educational opportunities and careers in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM).

This position will support the group in developing a convenient ultrasensitive targeted Mass Spectrmetry system for proteomics analysis fo single cells. They will also support the group in identifying a panel of biomarkers for prostate cancer detection and stratification. This will be a collaborative effort between PNNL and the University of Washington.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must be a female currently enrolled as a sophomore, junior or senior in a public or private high school.

  • Applicants must be 16 years of age by June 2019.

  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (from beginning of 9th grade to current standing).

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant Course Work - Basic biochemistry knowledge

Computer Skills Desired - Experience in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Other Desired Skills - Ability to work in a team, flexible/adapable, strong communication skills, familiar with bioinformatics tools and the proteomics pipeline, and work on large-scale proteomics data analysis
