Job Description

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking ambitious, high-caliber sophomore, junior or senior high school students for intern assignments within the High School Young Women in Scienc e (YWiS) Program. This summer internship is a research-based educational experience for sophomores, juniors and senior females. The students must have an expressed interest in and potential for educational opportunities and careers in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM).

The student will assist the group in testing machine learning algorithms that are adjusted for scientific computing problems related to DOE projects. Tuning the learning models for specific problems and comparing the performance of different algorithms.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must be a female currently enrolled as a sophomore, junior or senior in a public or private high school.

  • Applicants must be 16 years of age by June 2019.

  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (from beginning of 9th grade to current standing).

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant Course Work - AP courses in linear algebra

Computer Skills - Basic knowledge in programming

Other Desired Skills - Good communication skills
