Job Description

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking ambitious, high-caliber junior or senior high school students for intern assignments within the High School Student Business Intern (HS SBI) program. This internship provides an opportunity for high school students interested in business careers to work during the academic year with a mentor in a specified business area. Students attend regular classes in their school for half a day and work up to four hours a day, five days each week at the Laboratory.

The candidate will work with the Division Administrator to provide support to staff members in the Physical Sciences Division. Specific tasks may include: scanning documents, travel expense reports, limited purchasing and ordering, badging visitors, scheduling meetings, developing meeting agendas, assist with onboarding of new hires, and submitting materials for public release.

This position offers a wide variety of assignments. The candidate chosen for it will need to be professional, experienced in Microsoft Office applications, flexible, able to multi-task, and able to team with others to ensure workflow, tasks, and support are prioritized and accomplished within set deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a sophomore, junior, or senior in a public or private high school.

  • Applicants must be 16 years of age by June 2019.

  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (from beginning of 9th grade to current standing).

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant Course Work - Business management, finance

Computer Skills - Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Other Desired Skills - Good oral and written communication skills and able to prioritize and organize work under supervision
