Job Description

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking ambitious, high-caliber junior or senior high school students for intern assignment within the High School Student Research Intern (HS SRI) Program. This internship provides an opportunity for students interested in preparing for careers in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM - or Computer Science) to work during the academic year with a scientist/mentor in a specified research area. Students attend regular classes in their school for one-half day.

Student will be supporting the team doing x-ray tomography user support, x-ray imaging and data process, and 3D visualization and microstructural studies using the tomography scanner and various computer software programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a sophomore, junior, or senior in a public or private high school.

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age by August 2019.

  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (from beginning of 9th grade to current standing).

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant Course Work - Math, science, some chemistry, and biology

Computer Skills - Good computer skills, knowledge of Windows system, ability to learn new software, and any scripting/coding experience a plus

Other Desired Skills - Interest in interdisciplinary scientific work, the ability to work independently, and good time management
