Job Description

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking ambitious, high caliber sophomore, junior or senior high school students for intern assignments within the Student Research Apprenticeship Program (SRAP). This summer internship is a research-based experience for students who are sophomore, juniors or seniors and/or students traditionally underrepresented in science and engineering.

This internship will be working with stationary energy storage, as a critical component in grid modernization, offers a potentially cost-effective approach for reliable renewable integration, balancing the mismatch between supply and demand, and improving overall grid reliability and efficiency. The project focuses on the development of electrochemical storage technologies for stationary energy storage applications. In particular, machine learning modeling on big data sets is being developed to design new energy materials.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a sophomore, junior or senior in a public or private high school at time of application.

  • Applicants must be 16 years of age by June 2019.

  • Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (from beginning of 9th grade to current standing).

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant Course Work - Basic courses in mathematics, chemistry, and physics. Some computer coursework will be a plus.

Computer Skills - Basic usage of computer applications. Experience with computer programming will be beneficial.

Other Desired Skills - Strong oral and written communication skills will be desired.
