Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking ambitious, high-caliber junior or senior high school students for intern assignments within the High School Student Business Intern (HS SBI) program. This internship provides an opportunity for high school students interested in business careers to work during the academic year with a mentor in a specified business area. Students attend regular classes in their school for half a day and work up to four hours a day, five days each week at the Laboratory.
The student will assist the S&T Communications team as it manages research, planning, implementation, and evaluation of communications strategies in PNNL’s national security mission area. Supports development and delivery of products for multiple stakeholders, including sponsors, collaborators, peers, elected officials, researchers, staff, and leaders. Creates presentations, brochures, web content, scientific and technical highlights, newsletters, posters, press releases, scripts, and other materials in collaboration with PNNL’s experts.

Applicants must be currently enrolled as a sophomore, junior or senior in a public or private high school.
Applicants must be 16 years of age by June 2020.
Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (from beginning of 9th grade to current standing).
Relevant Course Work: Coursework in English, journalism, marketing, and digital media. Curiosity for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Computer Skils Desired: Proficient with Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint. Able to quickly learn new software programs and web tools. Basic experience and comfort using social media.
Other Desired Skills: Students who excel at writing, editing, planning, or creative arts. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; work requires continual attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Demonstrated interest in communications and event management.
