Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking ambitious, high-caliber junior or senior high school students for intern assignment within the High School Student Research Intern (HS SRI) Program. This internship provides an opportunity for students interested in preparing for careers in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM - or Computer Science) to work during the academic year with a scientist/mentor in a specified research area. Students attend regular classes in their school for one-half day.
The NGEE-Tropics project (https://ngee-tropics.lbl.gov/) aims to shed light on the implications of drought in tree mortality, an area of increasing concern under climate hange. We employ a variety of methods in our work; a successful applicant will have the opportunity to learn and implement these processes in collaboration with experienced researchers. This includes processing and analyzing diverse plant tissue samples sourced from the global tropics.

Applicants must be currently enrolled as a sophomore, junior, or senior in a public or private high school.
Applicants must be 18 years of age by January 2020.
Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (from beginning of 9th grade to current standing).
Relevant Course Work: Biological, Environmental, and /or Physical Sciences
Other Desired Skills: Research experience highly preferred
