Job Description

If you are a talented geoscientist and you want to join a highly dynamic team working in various application domains, this job is for you. The Subsurface Science & Technology Group, is seeking a highly qualified geoscientist to join us in our research in earth and environmental science, energy development, and national security. In particular, we are seeking candidates who can contribute to studies in environmental remediation monitoring and underground nuclear detonation detection. This position is anticipated to require leadership through interaction and coordination with large teams of multidisciplinary scientists and project sponsors as well as leadership and management of small teams. Preferred candidates will have experience in both laboratory and field scale investigations. Furthermore, proven experience with laboratory management and customer interaction is desired.

  • Propose, develop, and execute original ideas to solve science and engineering problems.

  • Design and coordinate projects as Principal Investigator (PI) or co-PI.

  • Support scope, schedule, and budget at project or major task level.

  • Publish research in leading peer-reviewed journals.

  • Present research efforts and technical work products at national or international forums.

  • Participate in business development opportunities.

  • Train and mentor junior level staff.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS/BA with 5 years of experience

  • MS/MA with 3 years of experience

  • PhD with 1 year of experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. in Geological Sciences or geochemistry with at least 5 years of related experience.

  • Demonstrated expertise in design and execution of multi-disciplinary field or laboratory experiments investigating geologic or man-made processes.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated record of publications in peer review journals and/or customer interactions.

  • Evidence of management and or integration in diverse multi-organizational teams, preferably within a DOE funded project.

  • Experience with Excimer laser, quadrupole MS, noble gas MS, ICP-MS, and TIMS

Other Information

This position is office based with opportunities to work in laboratory and field. As such, travel to offsite locations may be required. Lab and field work conditions may include radiological, chemical, biological, and munitions hazards. Exposure to mechanical hazards, chemicals, etc., are kept to a minimum and mitigated through the use of administrative and engineering controls, and the maintenance of a safety-conscious work environment.
