Job Description

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is recruiting entry-to-mid career scientists with the goal of improving the quantification of the wind resource, improving understanding of the turbulent inflow to wind plants (both on and offshore), and developing new tools for distributed wind. The successful candidate will perform analysis of observations collected as part of number of different Department of Energy and other field studies and combine those data with output from regional and/or large eddy simulation models. A successful candidate will join a team of researchers with a broad range of interests and expertise and is expected to publish his/her work in peer reviewed journals.

Minimum Qualifications

BS/BA with 2 years of experience, or MS/MA with 0 years of experience, or PhD with 0 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS/BA with at least 7 years’ experience or a MS/MA with 5 years’ experience or a PhD with 2 years’ experience

  • Experience with in situ and/or remote sensing data sets

  • Experience with computer languages usually used for modeling and analysis (Fortran, Python, R, NCL, Matlab, IDL, etc.)

  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix computational environments

  • Research experience in boundary layer meteorology, especially for complex terrain or air-sea interaction
