PNNL seeks a compassionate and engaged employee with a commitment to customer service to deliver and exceed results. This position reports directly to the Manager for Total Rewards inside the Human Resources function. The Disability and Leave Specialist is responsible for managing the short-term disability process, Washington PFML Leaves, and return to work for assigned PNNL employees. The position will interact with employees, supervisors, third-party vendors, and insurance carriers and closely partner with the onsite occupational health services.

  • Administer and manage leave programs, including maintaining and updating, related systems

  • Engage in the interactive process related to employee disability, accommodations, and return to work

  • Monitor and actively manage leave cases by working with employees, medical providers, TPA, Occupational Health, and state entities

  • Understand, update, and relay information related to leave policies from an organization, state, and federal perspective

  • Ensure program and process compliance including the timely collection, recording, and filing of forms

  • Communicate with employees and managers about leave programs, accommodations, and return-to-work plans

The Disability and Leave Specialist will monitor and track employees who are on leave and work with the payroll department to ensure that employees are compensated accordingly. The position will engage in the interactive process with employees and offer options, recommendations, and solutions to both employees and supervisors regarding leaves of absence and returning to work. The Disability and Leave Specialist ensures that each leave of absence complies with all local, state, and federal laws. The position may also be assigned project work in the areas of accommodations and other areas of benefits.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of relevant experience. Advanced degree and 0-2 years of relevant experience.

  • Leave, disability, medical, legal or Human Resources experience

  • Experience with computer and database systems such as: Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Google apps, etc.
