PNNL is seeking an accomplished digital content specialist with a passion for science and technology who speaks “fluent internet” to join our News & Media team. If you’re a quick-witted, detail-oriented team player who brings a creative approach in a deadline-driven environment, we’re looking for you.
Focused on publishing social media and email content, the Digital Content Specialist is responsible for organizing, editing, and amplifying a variety of digital assets to support the efforts of the social, digital, and news teams. From photos to tweets to Instagram live posts, you will be a part of translating science for the masses, such that PNNL’s research and innovation reaches the right audience with the right message at the right time. Simply said, you will play a key role in telling PNNL’s story to a broad audience.
You will partner with the head of social media and community management to assure a consistent flow of engaging high-quality, scientifically accurate stories and execute multi-layered digital campaigns that leave our audiences wanting to learn more.
Authority and Accountability
Work with the News & Media team to publish digital assets that drive traffic to PNNL.gov and help meet our ambitious communications and outreach goals.
Serve as the point-person for publishing social media and email content.
Engage in ongoing quality control checks (spelling, grammar, style, image cropping, etc.) of 200-300 social posts/month to assure content is free of errors.
Collaborate with the Social Media Manager to produce social media posts that promote relevant content in line with our social media strategy.
Work with Creative Director to maintain brand consistency and assure that all graphic assets are in line with PNNL brand guidelines and aesthetics.
Stage and publish up to 30 email news releases and web features per month.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
At least three years of experience publishing vast amounts of digital content for a large brand, organization, or institution.
Experience with Sprout, HootSuite, Sprinklr, or other social media publishing platforms.
Experience with HubSpot, MailChimp, Constant Contact or other email outreach platforms.
Proven success with social media platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Reddit.
Ability to be collaborative and flexible in working with a variety of stakeholders.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
An understanding of visual design best practices and principles.
Ability and willingness to monitor and respond to social media posts outside of regular working hours.
Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced, collaborative, ever-changing environment, always bringing humor, tact, and professionalism.
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing/advertising, or related field with three years of professional experience, or an advanced degree.
Experience managing social media accounts for a large academic or scientific research institution.
Exceptional communication and project management skills.
Ability to understand and communicate complex scientific concepts.
Keen ability to stay on the cutting edge of industry trends.
