As a part of the Department of Energy, the Nuclear Smuggling, Detection and Deterrence (NSDD) program enhances the security of our nation by providing equipment for and training partner countries in the operation and maintenance of radiation detection equipment. The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking an undergraduate student to support NSDD training, specifically coordinating training logistics, translations and quality assurance. The NSDD training project the student will work on is focused on implementing NSDD training events both internationally and domestically. This includes traditional project management and project coordination, material production and review. The training materials are developed to support effective management, operation, and maintenance of deployed technologies, and to build the capacity of partner organizations. In addition, the student will assist the project with records tracking and management and supporting other team members with their course responsibilities. This position may also provide administrative support as needed. This project is dependent upon continued federal funding.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Provide support to the training program for national security projects.
Attend meetings as directed to capture needed information.
Assist with planning and scheduling pre-deployment coordination meetings with project managers, training logistics coordinators, instructors, translation coordinator, and other support staff.
Assist with providing logistical support for in-country training courses that may include:
Review requirements to determine if translations are needed
Submit curriculum for translations in a timely manner
Prepare and build course materials
Submit materials for duplication
Review materials throughout process to ensure quality standards are followed
Coordinate international shipments with PNNL Export Control
Ensure all materials have been through the PNNL approval process
Ensure training materials are complete prior to the course start date
Must complete work in accordance with project schedules, often with competing priorities and demands.
Must work proactively with PNNL operations and project staff, as well as staff from other DOE national labs.
Candidates must be degree-seeking students enrolled at an accredited college or university. Candidates must be taking at least 6 credit hours and have an overall GPA of 2.5.
U.S. citizenship required.
Demonstrated organizational skills with ability to prioritize work assignments and adjust schedules based on changing requirements while still delivering a top-quality product.
Proficient in Microsoft Office specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Demonstrate ability to work in a team environment as well as the ability to work effectively and efficiently with moderate oversight in a fast paced dynamic and evolving environment.
Background and experience with training, management and logistics.
Knowledge of the systematic approach to training (SAT)
Quality assurance experience is highly desirable.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure as needed
Ability to interact with diverse personalities, tactful, mature and flexible
A current undergraduate student pursing a degree in Project Management, Business Management or similar, with strong interest in pursuing a career in International Affairs, Security and Resilience, Project Management, or Instructional Design. Cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher preferred.
