Work on projects that serve the communications needs of a wide variety of clients from across PNNL as part of the Communications and Publications Division! As a communications intern, you’ll join a talented, diverse team and work on projects in internal communications, external communications, news, media, web, content editing, and more. You’ll also team with creative professionals to help develop ideas for visual elements to enhance our communications products. You’ll be mentored by communications leaders from across the division as you complete this work.
What you’ll do:
Learn the value of and collaborate with the specialized teams in the Division—S&T Communications, Internal Communications, Creative Services, Content and Quality, and News and Media—and lean on the skills and professional support of others to complete projects as per the standard workflow.
Learn how to use a workflow and job management system (Jira).
Write general content for internal and external audiences, including content for newsletters, emails, calendars, the PNNL.gov website.
Team with Creative Services to initiate and advise on necessary create elements for projects and stories.
Practice applying various style guides (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style and AP Stylebook) to your work.
Learn how to collect and incorporate feedback from clients and peers.
Sharpen your skills in writing and editing, as well as PowerPoint storyboarding, formatting, and design.
Tag and optimize content on the PNNL external website using Drupal
Interact, communicate, and problem solve with a diverse team of communicators within the Communications and Publications Division and across PNNL.
Candidates must be degree-seeking students enrolled at an accredited college or university. Candidates must be taking at least 6 credit hours and have an overall GPA of 2.5.

Interest in the field of communications
Communications-related college major or area of focus; “Rising Junior,” “Rising Senior,” or 2021 graduate status
Training and advanced aptitude in communications
Strong written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to write and proofread content for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and style
