Job Description

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is seeking summer interns with an interest in pursuing a career in the contracting profession. Successful candidates will assist staff, under the guidance of a Directorate Contracts Manager or designee, in a variety of areas, including:

  • Planning, preparation, submission and execution of non-complex contracts for commercial good and services

  • Developing a working knowledge of Battelle/PNNL and DOE policies and procedures with respect to government procurement regulations

  • Conducting market research for potential sources of supply or services and conducting contract negotiations normally valued at less than $25K.Drafting simple contractual instruments in accordance with prescribed templates and guidelines

  • Determining reasonableness of price for goods and services procured through techniques such as price competition and published list prices

  • Monitoring expenditures, deliverables, and completion dates of contracts

  • Preparing documents for contract close-out

  • Identifying process improvements that enable more effective and efficient business operations

  • Participating in contract requirements analysis, subcontractor flow down determinations, system support, and other governance activities

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be degree-seeking students preferably in a business administration or related field enrolled at an accredited college or university. Candidates must be taking at least 6 credit hours and have an overall GPA of 2.5.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient computer skills with competency in spreadsheet and database programs, preferably Excel and Access, as well as Word and PowerPoint.

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • Proactive, positive, and outgoing attitude

Preferred Education

Preference will be given to candidates with Junior or above standing who have achieved an intermediate level of coursework, experience, or combination of the two. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred.
