Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s Nuclear Sciences Division (NSsD) is seeking a Senior Technical Advisor responsible for understanding the challenges associated with the flowsheets and plants for processing nuclear waste and used nuclear fuel. The Radiochemical Flowsheet Senior Technical Advisor will conceive, create, develop and implement an actionable strategy that will enable PNNL to deliver cutting edge solutions to DOE missions in partnership with U.S. industry and other national laboratories.
Works with EED Senior Managers (Chief Science and Technology Officer, Market Sector Managers, Division Directors, Technical Group Managers, market sectors, and Project Management Office Directors) to design and implement programmatic strategies, utilizing existing PNNL capabilities in S&T directorates, and partnerships with other national laboratories and industry to meet DOE and commercial mission objectives for treating tank waste and recycling used nuclear fuel.
Informs and supports business activities and interacts with senior executives at sponsor locations and PNNL senior leadership to identify and shape future R&D opportunities, both within PNNL and across partner national laboratories and industry.
Leads collaborative efforts of all stakeholders in the development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for initiatives, projects, programs, and people. Translates strategy into implementable actions at a national level.
Establishes PNNL or DOE strategic plans and objectives to address emerging national and international trends impacting national security and future technical directions of PNNL, DOE, and other U.S. Government sponsors
Develop and grow relationships with other DOE labs, research institutions, and industry to collaborate on large-scale projects of importance at national cleanup sites.
Provides technical insight to stakeholders on research, development, and acquisition planning. Identifies operational inefficiencies and performance improvement opportunities. Mentor and guide junior to senior level staff to develop their technical and leadership competencies.
BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with 12+ years’ experience
MS in with 8+ years’ experience
PhD in with 3+ years’ experience
Demonstrated program and project leadership experience in the area of flowsheets and plants for processing nuclear waste and used nuclear fuel.
Demonstrated experience building external collaborations with leading research organizations, national laboratories, universities, and industrial partners.
Demonstrated experience working with DOE Office of Environmental Management, DOE Office of River Protection, DOE Office of Nuclear Energy and Hanford Site Contractors.
Demonstrated leadership in professional organizations, such as AIChE or ASME.
Proven ability to create and execute strategies, identify and interact with key stakeholders, prepare program proposals, and generate future R&D or mission application directions.
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral skills; the ability to effectively lead interdisciplinary teams, and a strong orientation toward advancing the state-of-the-art technical capabilities.
