Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s Earth Systems Science Division (ESSD) is seeking a Senior Advisor responsible for maintaining an awareness of the national and international competitive landscape of ESSD capabilities within earth system science and engineering to inform and advance division strategies. The Senior Advisor will work with sector and line management to develop and execute the ESSD strategy in a number of strategic technical areas related to nuclear engineering and spent fuel management. The Senior Advisor will be a key member of the ESSD Leadership team, partnering with colleague-, group-, and division-level leaders to align earth system science and engineering capabilities with ESSD and sector strategies to deliver successful outcomes tailored to PNNL and sponsor needs. Representation in Washington DC and regular interactions with key clients will be an important aspect of this position. The Senior Advisor should be comfortable working with key sector managers, and program managers and EESD communications to establish new programs and forward-reaching capabilities based on innovative combinations of the division’s core competencies in response to PNNL and national needs.

Develop and maintain a strategic vision for the Division .
Establish and maintain a culture of integrity, commitment to scientific and technical excellence, and delivery on commitments and operational effectiveness.
Implement all applicable security, quality, compliance, and administrative policies.
Collaborate with group and team leaders to assess depth and breadth of division capabilities to develop a recruiting strategy to meet ESSD strategy goals.
- BS 10+ years of experience; MS 6+ years of experience; PhD 3+ years of experience.
MS 6+ years of experience or PhD 3+ years of experience PhD in nuclear science or engineering and 10 or more years of progressively responsible leadership, program leadership, or line management experience.
Outstanding scientific research and technical leadership in nuclear engineering or waste management as evidenced by publications, citations, presentations, and/or other relevant metrics.
Experience in economics, policy, and stakeholder engagement related to integrated waste management.
A record of success in developing new program funding initiatives within integrated waste management and a network of contacts with program sponsors relevant to ESS.
A record of effective leadership and teamwork (interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills) in a complex scientific organization and a demonstrated scientific vision and ability to collaborate across business units to build, maintain, and market capabilities.
