Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s Earth Systems Science Division (ESSD) is seeking a Senior Advisor responsible for maintaining an awareness of the national and international competitive landscape of ESSD capabilities within subsurface science to inform and advance division strategies. The Strategic Advisor will lead the development and execution of the ESSD strategy for engineered and computational geophysics and will be a key member of the ESSD Leadership team, partnering with colleague-, group-, and division-level leaders to align engineered and computational geophysics capabilities with ESSD strategies in subsurface science. The Senior Advisor will be expected to partner with Sector Managers from across the organization to deliver successful outcomes tailored to PNNL and sponsor needs. The Senior Advisor should be comfortable working with key sector and program managers to establish new programs and forward-reaching capabilities based on innovative combinations of the division’s core competencies in response to PNNL and national needs.
Foster collaborations while communicating the Division’s capabilities and accomplishments with internal and external partners to advance the organization’s reputation.
Develop and maintain a strategic vision for the Division within engineered and computational geophysics.
Establish and maintain a culture of integrity, commitment to scientific and technical excellence, and delivery on commitments and operational effectiveness.
Implement all applicable security, quality, compliance, and administrative policies.
Collaborate with group and team leaders to assess depth and breadth of division capabilities to develop a recruiting strategy to meet ESSD strategy goals.
- Advisor 4: BS 10+ years of experience; MS 6+ years of experience; PhD 3+ years of experience.
PhD in geophysical or computational subsurface science or engineering and 10 or more years of progressively responsible leadership, program leadership, or line management experience.
Outstanding scientific research and technical leadership in interfacial biogeochemistry, geophysical or computational subsurface science or engineering as evidenced by publications, citations, presentations, and/or other relevant metrics.
A record of success in developing new program funding initiatives within engineered and computational geophysics and a network of contacts with program sponsors relevant to ESS.
A record of effective leadership and teamwork (interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills) in a complex scientific organization and a demonstrated scientific vision and ability to collaborate across business units to build, maintain, and market capabilities.
Ability to obtain and maintain radiological worker qualification.
Ability to obtain a security clearance.
