This position provides administrative, financial and non-technical support to the Radiation Detection & Nuclear Sciences (RDNS) staff and their projects.
The program and project managers look to the incumbent to coordinate their daily and critical activities. These activities include interacting with senior directorate management and external clients.
The incumbent will report to the Technical Team Lead of the Project, Administrative and Logistics Support team within the Radiation Detection & Nuclear Sciences (RDNS) group.
As a member of the RDNS administrative team the incumbent will work with the Technical Group Manager and a team of administrative and project coordinator staff to accomplish group objectives and assist with overflow work, while providing project support to key scientific staff.
The incumbent will be expected to interact with PNNL staff and their clients and provide information on a wide-range of organizational and business issues to facilitate the appropriate flow of information to others.
The incumbent will anticipate program, project and group needs; identify areas for continuous improvement; and work with others to develop and implement solutions to meet needs and improve processes. This detailed understanding enhances the incumbent’s ability to provide support and anticipate administrative needs.
Due to the nature of this work, the incumbent will receive direction from multiple staff members and will need to refocus priorities accordingly. Requires proactive interaction with staff to identify and support scientists by managing schedules and keeping staff apprised of their action items and deadlines.
Provide senior-level assistance and partnering support to 2-3 senior scientists.
Provide excellent administrative support to designated RDNS scientific staff and capabilities.
Identify problems and develop solutions.
Set up high-level meetings, program reviews and client visits
High School Diploma with 3-5 years’ experience in a clerical or administrative environment, or combination of education and experience as well as experience in planning meetings and coordinating travel
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to prioritize and organize work under supervision
Ability to articulate standard policy and procedures to multiple audience levels
Ability to independently prioritize and organize work; routinely taking initiative managing workloads
Ability to work effectively as part of an administrative team
Experience working in secure environments
Experience supporting lab-intensive research and development
Working knowledge/familiarity with RDNS programs and capabilities or a demonstrated ability to quickly come up to speed on the relevant research areas

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.
Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.
Drug Testing: All Security Clearance (L or Q) positions will be considered by the Department of Energy to be Testing Designated Positions which means that they are subject to applicant, random, and for cause drug testing.
