Job Description

The PNNL Advanced Lighting Team engages in a broad scope of research related to energy-efficient lighting technologies and their applications in the built environment. Post-master’s internship positions may focus on conducting and reporting research on emerging areas of lighting science, including the visual effects of light on human perceptions of glare, flicker, and color; other physiological effects of light such as circadian and acute alerting effects; lighting used in horticultural applications; connected lighting systems, and their interoperability with other building systems; energy performance of IoT-enabled lighting systems, or other related topics. Individuals holding post-master’s internship appointments will collaborate with one or more principal investigators of current studies and are expected to directly contribute to one or more project reports and/or technical papers suitable for submission to a peer-reviewed journal. Candidates may also propose a specific research topic for their appointment, for consideration by PNNL management.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a Master’s degree within the past 24 months or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university. Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 required.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates should have completed a master’s degree with a research emphasis in a topic area related to the lighting science and one or more application areas listed in the position description. Academic disciplines such as architectural engineering, lighting, psychology, vision science, and others may be acceptable, depending on the specific research addressed as part of the master’s degree program.
