Job Description

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking ambitious, high-caliber junior or senior high school students for intern assignment within the High School Student Research Intern (HS SRI) Program. This internship provides an opportunity for students interested in preparing for careers in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM - or Computer Science) to work during the academic year with a scientist/mentor in a specified research area. Students attend regular classes in their school for one-half day.

The student's primary area of work will be with an existing database on soil respiration (the natural flow of CO2 from the soil to atmosphere) studies made worldwide. After an extensive orientation period, the student will update the database with recently-published data. This is more than simple data entry and requires careful reading and checking in collaboration with the two primary mentors, Dr. Ben Bond-Lamberty and Ms. Stephanie Pennington. Work later in this year will branch out to R programming and data visualization.
