Job Description

The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL)’s Buildings & Connected Systems Group is seeking a summer Intern to support its research on methods and technology solutions to enhance building performance. BCS performs applied research that drives energy and water efficiency, occupant productivity, and resilient operation of buildings and connected systems to provide economic, environmental, security, and societal benefits to the nation.

The Intern will provide research support to a team of engineers developing tools to support high-performance building analysis and energy modeling. The Intern will work with PNNL staff on topics including:

  • a healthy building cost-benefit analysis and literature review

  • mapping building characteristics to the DOE’s Building Energy Asset Score tool for assessing the physical and structural energy efficiency of buildings.

  • engaging with other building and energy projects as needs arise.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be degree-seeking students enrolled at an accredited college or university. Candidates must be taking at least 6 credit hours and have an overall GPA of 2.5.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must have knowledge of building systems and energy efficiency through coursework.

  • Experience with data analysis and statistics is a plus.

  • Experience with energy modeling and analysis is a plus.

  • Professional or academic research experience is a plus.

Degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, architecture, or related field
