Pacific Northwest National Lab (PNNL) is seeking a cyber security researcher with a broad skill set to develop and teach graduate level cyber security courses, engage in cutting edge research, and help maintain computer equipment. This position is located in Arlington, VA. The incumbent is organizationally part of the Operations & Analysis Group. This Group is a part of the National Security Directorate and provides high quality technology and analysis products to the U.S. Department of Energy and other federal agencies.
Responsibilities and accountabilities include:
Develop and teach course curriculum that meets learning objectives for graduate level cyber security accredited courses
Create and analyze datasets, applications, and tools for hands-on experiential exercises in the classroom
Build proficiency with tools and data sets and collaborate with PNNL R&D developers to build demonstrations for sponsor engagements and classroom activities
Design cyber security related experiments and assist with customizing systems and equipment in support of research
Engage in computer science and cyber security research
Serve as an Information System Security Officer (ISSO)
Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or closely related field and 9 years of relevant experience or a Master’s Degree in computer science or closely related field and 7 years of relevant experience
Relevant experience is defined as:
Demonstrated research skills and/or professional publications in the field of cyber security
Expert level knowledge in computer science and cyber security, experience with programming languages, and knowledge of network engineering
Must have demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with clients and laboratory scientific staff and management
PhD in computer science or related field
Prior teaching experience

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.
Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.
Drug Testing: All Security Clearance (L or Q) positions will be considered by the Department of Energy to be Testing Designated Positions which means that they are subject to applicant, random, and for cause drug testing. In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for the 12 consecutive months preceding completion of the requisite Questionnaire for National Security Positions (QNSP).
Note: Applicants will be considered ineligible for security clearance processing by the U.S. Department of Energy until non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for 12 consecutive months can be demonstrated.
Work location will be primarily in Arlington, VA, with travel determined by project need.
This position will require occasional work around electrical computer cabinets that may include installing computer, network, and other components.
