Job Description

We seek an undergraduate student in biology, chemistry, or a related field who is a motivated and self-directed individual with excellent communication skills to assist in the operation of the Integrative Omics Sample Preparation laboratories. This person will perform routine scientific laboratory housekeeping tasks, including tracking samples, ordering and stocking supplies, washing glassware, performing calculations, preparing buffers and other solutions, sterilizing items in an autoclave, labeling and storing items, and other laboratory tasks. The position requires a highly responsible individual who pays close attention to detail because the work often involves valuable biological samples. There are opportunities for growth, and additional tasks, such as performing proteomic optimization experiments, are feasible after mastering routine tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be degree-seeking students enrolled at an accredited college or university. Candidates must be taking at least 6 credit hours and have an overall GPA of 2.5.

Preferred Qualifications

Applicants need to have completed one year of introductory chemistry with labs in high school or college. Biology, organic chemistry, or biochemistry classes are a plus. Applicants must be over 18 when starting employment.

This position requires critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and good oral and written communication skills.

It is necessary that the prospective employee is flexible, driven and a strong self-starter.

We are seeking someone with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Work will take place during the daytime, with weekday hours to be determined around the student’s school schedule; with a minimum of 4 hour block of time each day worked. When school is not in session, students may work up to 40 hours per week.
