Job Description : The Risk and Decision Sciences Group within the Energy and Environment Directorate at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is currently seeking a Senior Nuclear Risk Analyst. This position provides expertise in nuclear risk analysis via participation in multidisciplinary teams of scientist and engineers in identifying, analyzing and implementing solutions to problems in environmental and nuclear business areas. The successful candidate will have the ability to apply safety, hazard, risk, and decision analysis skills to a diverse range of projects including new designs and modification to existing nuclear and industrial facilities, regulatory assessments, and engineering alternative studies. This includes but is not limited to compiling, analyzing and interpreting decision support data, leading regulatory and project document/presentation development, managing tasks and projects as part of a team of risk experts, and developing new business opportunities. Responsibilities: This position will support PNNL Project Managers for various clients including the Department of Energy, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and PNNL internal hazard analyses. The scientist/engineer will actively focus on technical contributions, project management and business development. The scientist/engineer will: -Prepare technical reports and deliver presentations to clients. -Lead proposal teams for developing business, and managing significant projects/programs. -Apply in-depth knowledge of risk assessment methodology and related data analysis techniques for nuclear facilities, plant life extension/reactor aging management, etc. -Apply probabilistic risk and safety applications, along with model attributes that are necessary for the sound and defensible use of risk in a series of possible applications, including but not limited to: -Transition of commercial nuclear power plant deterministic programs to risk based approaches, -NPP plant life-extension beyond 60 years/reactor aging management -Licensing decision-making, reliability-centered maintenance, hazard and consequence analysis. -severe accident management. -Seismic fragility evaluation -Interpret standard analytical/engineering theories, principles, methods, tools and technologies, and adaptations of technical alternatives -Assemble multi-disciplinary risk teams and manage and mentor early career staff in accomplishing reviews and building capabilities in risk assessment across applicable PNNL groups-

  • Manage technical products for the project to assure that they are delivered with the required level of quality, timeliness, and cost to meet or exceed program manager and client expectations. -Publication of research and participation in professional activities that advance the reputation of PNNL as a premier S&T; institution. . Minimum Requirements : Master’s Degree in nuclear engineering or related field with at least 10 years of experience directly related to nuclear risk assessment. . Qualifications : Professional Experience: Demonstrated experience in nuclear plant risk assessment and applying nuclear risk assessment skills to support business development and project implementation at nuclear power plants and/or nuclear facilities. Effective technical leadership of teams on multiple or significant PRA projects and tasks. Experience managing moderate to large, complex projects using PRA. Technical Expertise and Breadth of Knowledge: Technical expertise and knowledge of nuclear engineering and risk methodology and related data analysis techniques for nuclear related studies. Extensive knowledge and practical experience of risk applications including PRA, and safety/hazard analysis. This would include an understanding of what model attributes are necessary for the sound and defensible use of PRA methodology in various research and applied applications. Technical Judgment: Past performance must demonstrate attributes of being self-motivated and self-directed, and must demonstrate experience managing multiple projects and leading interdisciplinary teams. Excellent written and oral communications skills are required. Must have experience in preparing, reviewing, and presenting the results of complex technical reports. .
