Job Description

The Energy Policy and Economics Group of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), located in Richland, WA, seeks a Post Masters Research Associate to conduct and publish research covering several important efforts within the PNNL Advanced Lighting team. The Research Associate will conduct literature reviews and summaries, will develop ideas and methods ion support of luminance measurement and glare analysis, and will support research on color quality. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research in close collaboration with other PNNL analysts, engineers and scientists together with outside collaborators, publish scholarly papers in open literature, and participate in national and international research efforts. The associate will play a central role in several cutting-edge or policy-relevant interdisciplinary research projects at PNNL.

The Advanced Lighting team is composed of lighting scientists, engineers and support staff from the group who are focused and passionate about conducting research that helps transform lighting markets and thereby enable adoption of energy efficient lighting products that hold the promise of helping the nation conserve a significant amount of energy. The Advanced Lighting team acts as a catalyst to drive research and development breakthroughs in efficiency and performance, and to equip buyers with the information they need to successfully apply energy efficient lighting solutions.

The Energy Policy and Economics Group at PNNL is comprised of an interdisciplinary team of economists, scientists, and engineers dedicated to understanding all aspects of energy efficient lighting, energy markets including efficient technologies, alternative energy resources, resource extraction, national and local impacts of policy, and the interface between human and natural systems.


Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a Master’s degree within the past 24 months or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university. Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 required.


Preferred Qualifications

The successful candidate must have a Masters Degree in one of the following; Architectural Engineering or Lighting Science\Engineering.

Must understand lighting quantities and metrics, as well as typical technical information provided for lighting products (e.g. detailed photometric test reports, spectral power distribution graphs, etc.). Some experience with HDR photography and with luminance measurement is desired. Demonstrated excellent English written and oral communication skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team environment are necessary. 3.25 GPA or higher is preferred.
