Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Post Doctorate RA - Catalysis Science in RICHLAND, Washington

Organization and Job ID

Job ID: 305896

Directorate: Physical & Computational Sciences

Division: Physical Sciences

Group: Catalysis Science

Job Description

The project focuses on fundamental issues in the conversion of oxygenates catalyzed by well-defined sites in a three-dimensional environment to create analogies between reaction steps catalyzed by homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts. Novel well-defined catalytic centers are synthesized, characterized and explored for acid-base catalyzed oxygen elimination reactions and hydrogen addition. Emphasis of the job will be on understanding the reaction steps on the surface of solid catalysts in the presence of aqueous and apolar liquids. Advanced characterization methods (in situ X-ray absorption, IR and NMR spectroscopies and microscopy) will be used to characterize catalytic materials in stages of preparation and during/after sorption and catalysis. The successful candidate will show potential to become an expert in the field and ability to prepare manuscripts for publication and to present work in seminars and scientific meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications

Must have completed PhD in physical sciences with strong backgrounds in physical chemistry and catalysis, including experience in X-ray absorption, IR and NMR spectroscopies, the preparation of nanostructured catalysts, physicochemical characterization of catalysts, and kinetic measurements of heterogeneous catalyzed reactions.

PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
