Job Description

The Integrative Omics research group at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory has an open postdoctoral research associate position for the development, implementation, and application of advanced mass spectrometry-based methods in biology and biotechnology. This position involves automated methods and advanced instrumentation to achieve the separation and structural characterization of biomolecules. In particular, efforts include the development and application of advanced ion mobility time-of-flight mass spectrometry technologies for the identification and quantification of sulfated polysaccharide components within complex biological matrices. The candidate is expected to develop applications that meet specific needs or address previously intractable problems that provide greatly improved separation peak capacity, limit of detection, and dynamic range.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Use of advanced separations and mass spectrometry instrumentation for biomolecular research.

Work effectively with a team of researchers, be self-motivated, and have excellent communication skills.

Publication of key scientific findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and technical reports.

Presentation of scientific work at professional conferences.

Accountability to relevant line managers and technical group manager for project development, execution and closure.

Identify and document intellectual property.

Work with members of technical and management teams to develop or lead proposals.

Perform daily office and lab task with minimal oversight and guidance.


Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.


Preferred Qualifications

Technical expertise in one or more of the following areas: biomolecular analyses using mass spectrometry, ion mobility spectrometry, liquid chromatography separations, and/or glycan/polysaccharide characterization

Experience with advanced separation methods for preparation of samples from complex biological fluids and matrices is a plus.

Self-motivated and excellent communication skills.

Minimum Education/Experience: PhD in Chemistry (Analytical, Bio-organic, Biochemistry, or related fields)
