Job Description

Develop and execute models using MATPOWER, Matlab and GridLAB-D. This position will develop cyber-physical modules based on given scenarios using MATPOWER models; using these new models in the context of system-wide studies to understand the effects on transmission components; and understanding the cyber-physical interactions of the smart grid. This position will work on validating power systems theories using GridLAB-D.

GridLAB-D is the next generation power distribution system simulation technology, developed by the US Department of Energy. The team is led by Pacific Northwest Laboratory in collaboration with National Energy Technology Laboratory and Electricity Power Research Institute. GridLAB-D incorporates the most advanced modeling and simulation techniques, combining high-performance algorithms and computer platforms to deliver the best in end-use modeling coupled with distribution automation models, and software integration tools for users of many power system analysis tools.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be currently enrolled/matriculated in a PhD program at an accredited college. Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Must have completed electrical, electronics or computer engineering coursework with programming background. Knowledge about Power systems fundamentals is preferred. MATLAB experience is required. C/C++, Python programming language experience is a plus. Some experience with power systems analysis tools (such as GridLAB-D, MATPOWER etc.) is preferred.
