Job Description

Develop, test and validate a wide variety of modules for GridLAB-D, FNCS, and NS-3. This position will developing large scale distribution and communication network system models; using these new models in the context of system-wide studies to understand the effects on distribution components; and understanding the cyber-physical interactions of the smart grid.

GridLAB-D is the next generation power distribution system simulation technology, developed by the US Department of Energy. The team is led by Pacific Northwest Laboratory in collaboration with National Energy Technology Laboratory and Electricity Power Research Institute. GridLAB-D incorporates the most advanced modeling and simulation techniques, combining high-performance algorithms and computer platforms to deliver the best in end-use modeling coupled with distribution automation models, and software integration tools for users of many power system analysis tools.

The Framework for Network Co-Simulation (FNCS), created through PNNL’s Future Power Grid Initiative, enables improved simulation and analysis related to communication and information technologies integrated with power system applications.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be currently enrolled/matriculated in a PhD program at an accredited college. Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Must have completed electrical or computer engineering coursework with software programming. Power systems background with power systems steady state and transient analysis is preferred. C/C++, Python or other programming language experience required. Some experience with distribution analysis tools (such as GridLAB-D, OpenDSS, WindMil, etc.) is preferred. Experience with communication network modeling in NS-3 is preferred.

3.75 GPA or higher is preferred
