Job Description

The Electricity Infrastructure Group within Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is currently seeking a Distibution Engineer. This position will provide support to the Laboratory's research in electrical power system distribution and demand response technologies. This position will focus on systems analysis for electric distribution systems, working closely with the power industry, in one or more of the following areas: electric power distribution design and analysis, power system planning, operations and control, and load modeling and demand response. Primary emphasis of this position will be the use of industry standard software, and the development of new modeling and analysis capabilities for analyzing power system behavior. Familiarity with distribution simulation tools, such as GridLAB-D, OpenDSS, CYMDIST, SynerGEE, etc., is preferred. Writing reports, conference and journal papers, and presenting results of the work are expectations of this position.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

• The candidate would be expected to be a contributor to projects within their field of specialization.

• Impact primarily within the Technical Group and their field of specialty.

• The successful candidate would be expected to perform independently the activities assigned but under the general direction and guidance of the Principle Investigator and/or Project Manager.

• This position reports to the Team Lead, Distribution and Demand Response in the Electricity Infrastructure Group.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with at least 5 years experience or a Master's degree with 3 years experience or a PhD with 1-2 years experience.

• Must be a skilled professional who applies a broad basis of existing theories, principles, and concepts to a specialty field.

• Based on client and project requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.

• The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree (MSEE or PhD) is preferred.
