Job Description

PNNL is seeking to hire a dynamic individual with strong credentials in computer science, embedded systems, and a passion for software engineering. The incumbent will have a unique opportunity to be part of growing team focused on challenges that range from basic research and development to technology insertion. The environment is highly challenging and complex. This position will develop novel technical solutions for sponsor needs.

The Cyber Security Software Engineer will support internal and sponsor funded cyber security research projects in developing solutions for a variety of cyber, network, and host security problems. These are complex problems that must be solved through effective design, decomposition, and implementation. Work will be varied. Examples include programming and scripting tasks, extending commercial and open source security tools to meet the needs of next generation technologies, or writing technical reports documents the results of an experiment. The incumbent will be expected to work as directed both in small groups and independently for significant periods of time.

The selected candidate will have a strong software engineering background and interests and the ability to flexibly move between programming languages and development environments to support various project requirements. This position has a preferred proficiency in C#, Java, JavaScript, and familiarity with full-stack development. Candidates will also have a good foundation in mid-to-low level software development, C/C++ experience a plus.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering or relate field.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience developing software on diverse platforms (ARM, Linux, Windows)

Testing and evaluation the effectiveness of novel technologies

This position requires the ability to obtain a federal security clearance in a timely manner. Which requires:

* U.S. Citizenship

* Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.

* Drug Testing: All Security Clearance (L or Q) positions will be considered by the Department of Energy to be Testing Designated Positions which means that they are subject to applicant, random, and for cause drug testing. In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for the 12 consecutive months preceding completion of the requisite Questionnaire for National Security Positions (QNSP).

Note: Applicants will be considered ineligible for security clearance processing by the U.S. Department of Energy until non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for 12 consecutive months can be demonstrated.
