Job Description

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking ambitious, high-caliber junior or senior high school students for intern assignments within the High School Student Business Intern (HS SBI) program. This internship provides an opportunity for high school students interested in business careers to work during the academic year with a mentor in a specified business area. Students attend regular classes in their school for half a day and work up to four hours a day, five days each week at the Laboratory.

The Integrative Omics Group has an internship opportunity for a student to work within our administrative team. The Intern will work with the group administrators and project coordinators to provide clerical/administrative support for the group that includes duties such as, but not limited to; filing, poster printing, updating and maintaining tracking spreadsheets, and Weekly Group website updates for presentations. The applicant must be able to effectively operate PC computer systems, electronic mail, Internet, search engines and current software including Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), etc., and be familiar with the use of standard office equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

- Applicants must be currently enrolled as a sophomore, junior or senior in a public or private high school at time of application.

- Applicants must be 16 years of age by June 2017.

- Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (from beginning of 9th grade to current standing).

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant Course Work Desired: Computer systems to include Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

Computer Skills Desired: The applicant must be able to effectively operate PC computer systems, electronic mail, Internet, search engines and current software including Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), etc., and be familiar with the use of standard office equipment.

Other Desired Skills

The applicant should illustrate a variety of interests outside their academic pursuits; demonstrate leadership abilities; and demonstrate the ability to express self accurately and concisely. Strong desire to learn and strong oral and written communications skills including spelling, editing and proofing. Must be able to demonstrate proficient use of standard office equipment and have the ability to interact with a wide variety of people. Strong emphasis on detail orientation.
